This qualified Scott and myself for the prestigious USA Bassin Classic, held at Douglas Lake in Tennessee. 260 teams from 10 states sent top qualifiers to the Classic. Team HOOTERS brought 23.15 lbs. to the scales for a solid third-place finish, including a big bass that weighed 6.2 lbs. During the tournament we concentrated on our two best patterns in the upper half of the lake.

We fished with three-quarter ounce Carolina rigs in conjunction with hopping heavy worms and jigs down river ledges, drop-offs and deep breaks. We backed up this pattern by keying on schooling fish that would frequently erupt on the surface destroying bait fish. Team HOOTERS had Lucky Craft Sammy’s, trigger ready, for when these fish would break. If we were close enough and got our bait in these busting schools, we would easily hook up every time. Scott and I had a great time and would like to thank Kevin Yeary and the staff of USA Bassin.

HBF also credits the directors of the Ohio divisions, John Johnson, Phil Loudin and James Spader, from which we qualified, wonderful people and a stellar event. In conclusion I would like to thank Roger Barber for another great guest appearance on his radio sports program 106.7 fm. HOOTERS Bass Fishing had a great time on the show and got to personally meet and enjoy two local fishing legends, Calvin Pyle and Leon Cole.
